Pomegranate

Welcome back to our Apothecary School. Where we want to teach you all about what goes into your skincare, and the key ingredients you should be looking out for!

Now, we’re sure you’ve tried pomegranate before right? But have you ever thought about having it formulated into your skincare?

Over the last couple of years, pomegranate has been hailed among the superfoods. This is no surprise when its been well known for its benefits since ancient times and is a symbol of abundance in many cultures. Modern research has touted the fruit for its plethora of health benefits.

So what are these benefits

Well first, Pomegranate is a powerful fruit that is rich in polyphenols like anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and many other plant polyphenols. These are the reasons that Pomegranate extract is so effective. Essentially, these help to detox the skin whilst also working to repair damaged skin, from factors like UV radiation. Anthocyanins work similarly to Vitamin C in how it benefits the skin.

As celebrity stylist Joanna Vargas has said, ‘Any antioxidant oil like argan or pomegranate is great…I encourage my clients to use them as face products and on the neck and chest. Your skin needs antioxidants no matter if it's the face or the body."

Ok, so how does this help my skin?

  • Heavy in Antioxidants

Not only does it contain Vitamin C, but it also contains other antioxidants such as anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and tannins. With all these antioxidants you have one of the ultimate blockers of free radical damage, which is a big cause of ageing.

  • Cell Regeneration

Pomegranates help protect the epidermis and aid in skin cell regeneration by increasing circulation and healing the skin.

  • Sun Protection

Pomegranate seed oil may work to protect against sun damage due to the ellagic acid. A polyphenol antioxidant found in large quantities in pomegranates, which researchers have found inhibits the growth of skin tumours.

  • Anti-Ageing

Pomegranates may help protect against premature ageing by helping reduce the signs caused by sun damage and exposure, such as wrinkles and fine lines. Pomegranates may also help prevent hyperpigmentation and age spots.

  • Youthful Skin

Pomegranates promote smooth, firm skin by boosting collagen and elastin production and softening skin.

  • Dry Skin

Pomegranate extract works for most skin types, and since it penetrates deeply into the skin, it is effective for treating dry skin. It soothes dry, cracked and irritated skin. Containing punicic acid, which is an Omega-5 fatty acid that is known to hydrate and prevent moisture loss.

  • Oily Skin/Combination Skin

Pomegranate even works for oily skin. The use of pomegranates has been proven beneficial for acne-prone skin, in combating breakouts, reducing scarring, and soothing minor irritations.

All of this is why we’ve chosen Pomegranate as the main active ingredeint in our Eye Serum

Specially formulated to brighten your under-eye area. Our Pomegranate Eye Serum uses a blend of fruit extracts to help reduce dark circles and build a protective barrier against daily aggressors. Antioxidant-rich Pomegranate works in synergy with Raspberry Seed Oil.
