Your Hemp Questions Answered
Welcome to the final post in our Hemp & CBD series. I hope you found these emails to be useful. Below I have answered some of your questions regarding Hemp & CBD. If you have a question which you would like answered, please drop us a message on our social pages or email us directly at helpdesk@drbotanicals.com

What is the difference between Hemp, CBD and Marijuana?

Hemp is a strain of the Cannabis Sativa plant that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived product. Our hemp is derived from the seeds of the plant, which are cold-pressed and result in an oil that is high in essential fatty acids and vitamins, resulting in a fantastic product for our skin.

CBD is a cannabinoid derived from the leaves and flowers of the cannabis plant. (There are over 100 cannabinoids found naturally in the cannabis plant!). Due to higher amounts of the plant involved in the production of CBD compared with hemp, the quantity of CBD in a CBD oil is far higher than it is in Hemp which is mainly made from the seeds.

Marijuana is a psychoactive drug from the cannabis plant used for medical and recreational purposes. Marijuana has high levels of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), which gives users a high. Neither CBD nor Hemp contains high levels of THC, in fact EU law states that THC content in CBD should not exceed one-hundredth of one per cent. Because Hemp is derived from seeds which naturally do not contain THC, hemp will contain only a minuscule amount of THC.

What Does CBD Stand For?
CBD is an abbreviation for “cannabidiol,” one of the 113 cannabinoids in the hemp plant. Cannabinoids are naturally-occurring compounds in the cannabis plant that provide benefits to users.

Are hemp and CBD legal in the UK?
Yes. Hemp and CBD are legal to buy and sell within the EU (except Slovakia).

You talk about Hemp & CBD being useful for some problem skin types. I have no skin problems. What benefits would I experience by using these products?
Hemp has anti-ageing benefits for everyone's skin. Hemp oil contains linoleic acid and oleic acids which aren't produced by the body but can play a crucial role in skin health and anti-ageing.

I take cholesterol-lowering medication. Would Hemp & CBD interact with my medications?
Because our products are applied topically to the skin rather than being ingested, the possibility of any significant quantity entering the bloodstream is very low and therefore would not be concerning. CBD can interact with blood thinners. We do advise to check with your GP for interactions when starting any new products and hemp and CBD are no exception.

Are there any side effects to using Hemp & CBD?
This question probably relates more to taking CBD oil drops, which can cause some side effects such as dry mouth. As our products are applied topically, there is less opportunity for the ingredients to enter the bloodstream and less chance for side effects to become an issue.

Can I travel abroad with hemp & CBD products?
The answer to this question depends on where you're travelling to. If you are travelling within the EU, you are free to travel with your favourite Hemp and CBD products (excludes Slovakia). The situation in Italy is confusing as the government has U-turned on their legislation with regard to hemp and CBD, so it may be best to air on the side of caution if Italy is your getaway destination. When travelling outside of the EU, it is best to check in advance if it is safe and legal to take hemp and CBD into your destination country.

Can I use hemp and CBD while pregnant or as a nursing mother?
We advise to always check with your GP if you are considering using Hemp or CBD while pregnant, if you have any specific health issues, take medications or are pregnant.
